Let's get Heavy on Metal...

Ciao a tutti e bentornati! Ormai sul filo di lana ecco la mia versione della Sfida Settimanale di SIMON SAYS STAMP MONDAY CHALLENGE BLOG...
Che bello essere a casa e potermi 'sporcare' un po' le mani...

Hello everyone and welcome back! I'm so late with it, so without further ado, here's my take on this week's Monday Challenge over at SIMON SAYS STAMP Blog...
It's so good to be back home and be able to get my hands inky...

E vogliamo parlare del tema della sfida? Heavy Metal...praticamente un invito a nozze!!! Lol!
Quindi mi sono sbizzarrita con rondelle ed ingranaggi di metallo, colori effetto metallizzato ed abbellimenti decisamente Metal....ma anche Heavy!

Can we talk for a minute about the new theme of the Challenge? Heavy Metal...seriously though...you were calling my name with this!Lol!
So I had my fill with metallic gears and cogs, metallic paints and embellishments definitely Metal...but also quite Heavy!

Per la prima volta ho utilizzato una cornice dalla parte 'sbagliata', ho inserito del cartone sul quale ho attaccato della tela Aida da ricamo con il Soft Gel, poi ho dipinto il bordo con il Gesso Nero della Prima, scendendo anche sulla tela. Ho steso con le dita gli Acrilici Opal Magic Blue/Gold e Aqua/Rose, poi ho creato l'effetto ruggine qua e là.
Ho aggiunto dei pigmenti metallici alla Pasta Modellabile e l'ho utilizzata con il Layering Stencil Industrial di Tim Holtz ed una volta asciutta ho passato un po' di colore acrilico Sparks Ginger Magic. Ho aggiunto un po' di effetto ruggine anche qui.
Ho ritagliato vari ingranaggi con la fustella BIGZ L Industrial di Tim Holtz, li ho colorati con il Gesso Nero e poi con il colore acrilico Metallics Splendid Gold della DecoArt.
Ho aggiunto una Paper Doll, una 'Quote Chip' ed una timbrata dal set Dapper, tutto di Tim Holtz.

For the first time I have built my project on the back of a frame...Added some cardboard and on top of that some stiching fabric, with Prima Soft Gel, then painted the border with Prima Heavy Black Gesso, adding few touches on the fabric too. Dabbed here and there using my fingers and Opal Magic acrylic paints Blue/Gold and Aqua/Rose, then added few rusty touches.
Mixed metallic pigments with Modeling Paste and used it with Tim Holtz Industrial Layering Stencil...once dry drybrushed with Sparks acrylic paint Ginger Magic, then added a bit of rust here and there.
Die-cut few gears using Tim Holtz/Sizzix BIGZ L Industrial Die, painted with Heavy Black Gesso, then with DecoArt Metallics Splendid Gold acrylic paint.
Added a Paper Doll, a 'Quote Chip' and a stamped image from the 'Dapper' stamp set...all by Tim Holtz.

ITAC 17 The Grand Final...THE WORLD!

Rimettiamoci alla pari, dopo le vacanze...Posto in ritardo il progetto fatto per il 'Grand Final' dell'International Tournament of Arts & Crafts - ITAC 17 - The World...praticamente l'ho fatto alla mattina, prima di partire per Corfu...lo so...sono da internare...ma volevo assolutamente completare questa sfida 'Mondiale' che mi ha appassionato per tutta la sua durata!

Let's keep up and get back on track after these holidays...Here I am posting the project made for The Grand Final of the International Tournament of Arts & Crafts - ITAC 17 - The World... I finished it in the morning, right before leaving for the airport to Corfu...I know...I'm completely crazy...but I wanted to complete this 'World Wide' Challenge that I enjoyed so much!

Ecco gli elementi da includere/ Here's the elements to be included:

• CERCHI simbolo del globo e dell'infinito. / CIRCLE(s) symbol of the globe, and of infinity
• Parole per PACE, AMORE, ARMONIA o UNITA' in ogni lingua / Words for PEACE, LOVE, HARMONY or UNITY in any language
• Filo metallico, cuciture, pizzo, nastri, qualcosa di intrecciato a significare interconnessione / Wire, sewing, lace, ribbon, something interlaced to symbolize interconnectedness
• BIANCO colore di unità e pace nel mondo / WHITE color of unity and peace in the world
• E poichè siamo tutte persone dalla mentalità aperta, il progetto potrebbe includere un BUCO o qualcosa di APERTO  /  And as we all are open-minded people your project could include a HOLE or something OPEN

Ho utilizzato un biglietto trifold, sulla prima facciata ho incollato dei pezzi di Tissue Wrap Postale, per riprendere il tema 'Mondo', steso del Gesso Bianco della 13@rts, poi ho utilizzato i Magicals della Lindy's nelle tonalità del porpora ed arancio, diluendoli con acqua. Ho usato un timbro della Carabelle che ricorda una cucitura,  dei cerchi interlacciati tra di loro ritagliati da 'stampe' create con la Gelli Plate...Prima di incollare i cerchi, ho 'punchato' un'apertura nel biglietto, poi ho iniziato ad assemblare il tutto. Le varie parole sono state fustellate usando un  cartoncino dorato... Come base per la parola PACE ho utilizzato un pezzo di nastro di Iuta dalla trama piuttosto larga.
Dopo aver incollato il tutto, ho incollato le varie facciate del biglietto in modo da avere un cartoncino piuttosto pesante, poi all'interno del 'BUCO' ho incollato un cuore.
Come tocco finale ho fatto cadere delle gocce di Inchiostro BIANCO SPLASH! della 13@rts.

I have used a trifold card for this project...I attached pieces of Tissue Wrap Postale on the front of the card, then used White Gesso by 13@rts and afterwards Lindy's Magicals in purple and orange tones, diluted with water. I have used a 'INTERLACED' stamp by Carabelle, die cut circles from Gelli Prints...before glueing down the circles, I have punched out an opening in the card, then assembled all the pieces. I have used a piece of burlap ribbon,  die cut the words from a piece of 'gold' cardstock and then glued the card's front and back together, in order to have one sturdy piece of cardstock. In the HOLE I added a tiny heart.
As a final touch spattered with SPLASH! WHITE Ink by 13@rts.

Simon Says It's Written in the Stars!

Ciao mi chiamo Simona e sono una drogata di Challenges...a parte gli scherzi..domani parto, devo fare la valigia...ed infatti mi sono messa a pasticciare con i Distress ed il risultato è questa Tag perfetta per la sfida settimanale del Lunedì di SIMON SAYS STAMP...E' scritto nelle Stelle!

Hi my name is Simona and I am a Challenges Junkie...ok, seriously...I'm leaving tomorrow for a vacation, still have to pack my bags and I decided to mess around with my Distress Inks and Oxides...and this is what I came up with...a Tag perfect for the Monday Challenge over at SIMON SAYS STAMP Blog...It's Written in the Stars!

Adoro le galassie, beh..chi non le adora...ne avevo già fatta una, con gli acquerelli così stavolta ho voluto provare con i Distress Oxides ed i Distress Inks ...e devo dire che mi piacciono entrambe le versioni!
Ho usato gli Oxides sulla Tag, prima con Antique Linen, poi  Peacock Feathers, Broken China, Faded Jeans e Black Soot...ho 'flickkato' dell'acqua ed asciugato. Poi ho macchiato con dell'acrilico bianco per creare le stelle....
Sulle Stelle ho prima embossato con Clear Distress Embossing Powder dei sentiments dal set di Simon Says Stamp 'Sentiments of Be'...che ci posso fare...lo adoro e continuo ad usarlo!
Usando i Distress Inks normali ho steso il Mustard Seed, Wilted Violet, Stormy Sky e Black Soot...poi ho ripetuto il procedimento di prima...
Infine, per finire il tutto non poteva mancare una Paper Doll di Tim Holtz...ovviamente la mia ballerina preferita, sulla quale ho aggiunto dei colpi di luce con il Distress Stain Tarnished Brass...finito!

I love galaxies...well...who doesn't...I already made one, using watercolors so this time wanted to try with Distress Oxides and Distress Inks...and I must say that I'm very pleased with both!
I have used Distress Oxides on the Tag, starting with Antique Linen, then Peacock Feathers, Broken China, Faded Jeans and Black Soot...I 'flicked' with water and dried, then spattered with white acrylic paint to create the stars...
On the actual Stars first I have embossed with Clear Distress Embossing Powder the sentiments from Simon Says Stamp 'Sentiments of Be' set...what can I do..I love this set and keep on using it!
I have then used Distress Inks Mustard Seed, Wilted Violet, Stormy Sky and  Black Soot...then repeated the flick&spatters...
As last step I had to use a Tim Holtz Paper Doll...of course couldn't be no other than my favorite ballerina! I added few touches of Distress Stain Tarnished Brass on the dress...and done!

Quindi è scritto nelle Stelle...Sii sempre una sognatrice! Alla prossima...

ITAC 17 CHALLENGE 5 - AMERICA...

Ciao a tutti, eccomi di nuovo su queste pagine per l'ultima, ma non meno importante sfida dell'International Tournament of Arts & Crafts - ITAC 17...siamo arrivati alla Challenge n.5 AMERICA...Celebrate the colors of The Americas! Celebrare i colori delle Americhe...infatti il mio progetto, uno spread nel mio Art Journal ha come soggetto il Sud America, il verde della Foresta Amazzonica, le parole struggenti di una delle mie canzoni preferite, 'Una Palabra' di Carlos Varela...e lei...l'unica, inconfondibile, meravigliosa FRIDA KAHLO...

Queste le richieste per la sfida:

• Tonalità di verde
• Qualcosa di trasparente o tagliente, tipo ghiaccio 
• Un qualcosa di formato XXL 
• Un elemento che suggerisca denaro 
• Uno o più elementi ispirati dalla musica e/o Samba
• Decorazioni fatte di piume, metallo, pelle...

Hello everyone, here I am once again for the last but least challenge of the International Tournament of Arts & Crafts - ITAC 17...we finally are at Challenge 5 - AMERICA.. Celebrate the colors of The Americas...as a matter of fact my project, an Art Journal spread, is about South America, the greens of the Amazon Rainforest, the hauting lyrics of one of my favourite songs, 'Una Palabra' by Carlos Varela...and her..the unique, iconic, wonderful FRIDA KAHLO...

These the elements requested for the challenge:

• Shades of green
• Something transparent or sharp, like ice
• A large format feature, XXL size
• An element suggestive of money and currency
• One or more elements inspired by music and/or Samba
• Decorations made of feathers, metal, leather…

Qui sopra i materiali usati per le pagine...Gesso Bianco, Modeling Paste e Stencil 'Always The Music' della 13@rts. Per i colori ho usato i Magicals della Lindy's 'Rusty Lantern Lime', 'Drop Dead Gorgeous Green' e 'Ponderosa Pines Olive', con l'aggiunta del Rainbow Color Duo 'Pistachio Green' della 13@rts.
Come immagine centrale ho utilizzato una cartolina di un quadro di Frida acquistata durante la visita ad una mostra a lei dedicata, qualche tempo fa...è assolutamente perfetta per l'occasione!

Above you can see the materials used for the project...White Gesso, Modeling Paste and Stencil 'Always the Music' by 13@rts. To paint I have used Lindy's Magicals 'Rusty Lantern Lime', 'Drop Dead Gorgeous Green' and 'Ponderosa Pines Olive', then added Rainbow Color Duo 'Pistachio Green' by 13@rts.
For my focal point I have used a postcard bought months ago, during a visit to an art exhibition about Mexican Painters...I think it's absolutely perfect for the occasion!

Sull'altra pagina ho scritto un paio di versi della bellissima canzone di Carlos Varela 'Una Palabra'...mi incanta tutte le volte che l'ascolto...
Ho timbrato delle piume su acetato usando lo StazOn Jet Black e le ho colorate con dei marker permanenti, ed ho aggiunto una piuma 'charm' in metallo.. con questo ho sistemato le richieste 'Piume', 'Metallo' e 'Trasparente'!
Un'altra pagina del mio 'Art Journal Emozionale' è fatta...

On the other page I wrote a couple of verses from the beautiful lyrics of  'Una Palabra' by Carlos Varela...I'm in love with this song...
I stamped few feathers on a piece of transparent plastic (acetate) with StazOn Jet Black Ink and colored them with permanent markers, then added a metal feather...prompts 'Transparent', 'Feathers' and 'Metal': check!
Another spread in my 'Emotional Art Journal' is done...

ITAC 17 Challenge 4 - AFRICA...

Ciao a tutti...questa settimana è stata piuttosto intensa...sono quasi in dirittura di arrivo con l'International Tournament of Arts & Craft - ITAC 2017..oggi parliamo della Challenge #4 - AFRICA!

Hello everyone...this week has been pretty intense...I have tried to keep up with the International Tournament of Arts & Craft - ITAC 2017 and today I will show you my take on Challenge #4 - AFRICA!

Non vi presento un vero e proprio tutorial oggi, anche perchè il mio 'viaggio' in Africa è stato piuttosto travagliato...è la prima volta che mi cimento in un disegno simile, però devo ammettere che è stato divertente! Ho utilizzato gli acrilici della DecoArt Americana, Tombow Dual Brush pens, i pochi pastelli Polychromos  che possiedo ed i Distress Inks, sia i normali che gli Oxides.
Sulla Crackle Paste ho usato anche la pasta anticante Vivid Vintage Espresso della 13@rts...
Queste erano le richieste per il progetto:

• Colori caldi, brillanti 
• Patterns etnici che si ripetono
• Charms, perle, filo metallico...
• Parole o testo
• Textures, crepe, effetto ruggine...

Una nota...avevo quelle perline etniche da almeno 15 anni...è proprio vero che non bisogna mai buttare niente!!! Lol!!!

I don't have a proper tutorial for this project, mostly because this 'journey' to Africa has been quite a bumpy ride...it's the first time I try this sort of drawing, but I have to admit that it was fun...even the messy part!

I have used DecoArt Americana acrylic paints, Tombow Dual Brush pens, the few Faber-Castell Polychromos that I have and Distress Inks and Oxides.

On the Crackle Paste I have used also Vivid Vintage Espresso antiquing paste by 13@rts...

These were the requests for the challenge:

• Warm, bright colors 
• Repeated ethnic patterns
• Charms, pearls, metallic wire…
• Words or text
• Textures, cracks, rust effect...

Just a side note...I've  had those ethnic pearls in my stash for 15 years at least...so it's true...you should never throw away anything!!! Lol!!!

ITAC 2017 - CHALLENGE #3 - OCEANIA...

Ciao e benvenuti...continuiamo con il mio viaggio intorno al mondo inseguendo le Sfide dell'International Tournament of Arts & Craft - ITAC 2017...oggi sono alle prese con la Challenge #3 - OCEANIA..

Hello and welcome...come with me in my journey around the World, following the challenges of  the International Tournament of Arts & Craft  - ITAC 2017...today I  want to show you my take on Challenge #3 - OCEANIA...

The Art of Storytelling! L'arte di raccontare una storia...di tramandare tradizioni raccontandole intorno ad un fuoco, scrivendole sulla carta e perchè no...tatuandole sulla pelle!
Quando penso all'Oceania, oltre ad isole e mari cristallini, non posso fare a meno di pensare ai Maori...ed ai loro tatuaggi, veri e propri 'statement' sulle loro origini impressi in modo indelebile sul loro corpo...
Io ho una passione per tatuaggi e tribali, MA...sono una fifona e non sopporto il dolore, quindi mi accontento di ammirarli sulla pelle degli altri...molto più coraggiosi di me, e magari di trasformarli in doodles nei miei lavori!
Come per le altre sfide, queste erano le richieste da soddisfare (almeno una tra le tante):

- Disegni ispirati ai simboli tradizionali (tatuaggi Maori, punti/trattini dell'arte aborigena...)
- Monocromatico bianco e nero o colori della Terra.
- Qualcosa di organico o materiali naturali (terra, pietra, osso, legno, fibre...)
- Forme ispirate all'arte tradizionale o indigena.

The Art of Storytelling! To enchant others with tales around the fires, or written on proper paper or..why not...written on the skin! 
When I think about Oceania, amongst beautiful islands and crystal water, I can't help but thinking about Maori and their tattoos, proper statement about their origins and traditions, marked permanently on their bodies...
I have a passion for tattoos and tribals, BUT...I am a chicken and can't stand pain, so I just admire them on others, way more fearless then me, and maybe turn them into doodles in my projects!
As for the previous challenges, these were the prompts to include (at least one of them):

• Patterns inspired by traditional symbols (Maori tattoos, Dots/dashes of aboriginal Arts…)
• Think Monochromatic black and white or think colors of the Earth.
• Some sort of organic or natural material(s) (earth, stone, bone, bark, wood, fibres…)
• Shapes inspired by traditional or indigenous art

Ho usato della Modeling Paste e della pasta Crackle in vari punti, per creare texture diverse, spruzzato i Lindy's, asciugato passato il Vivid Vintage Espresso della 13@rts sulle crepe per evidenziarle meglio e stampato questo bellissimo (almeno per me) Gecko che ho da un sacco di tempo...due sono stampati con inchiostro metallico, mentre quello centrale è embossato con polvere nera.

I have used Modeling Paste and Crackle Paste in different sections, to create a varied texture, sprayed with Lindy's, dried and added 13@rts Vivid Vintage Espresso paste on cracks to enhance them. Then stamped this beautiful (at least for me) Gecko...two images have been stamped using metallic ink pads while the one in the middle has been embossed with black embossing powder.

Ho aggiunto del filo ed un pezzo di tessuto di iuta, un legnetto che ho trovato in giardino ed un sasso che ho raccolto al mare....(ok era in Grecia e non in Nuova Zelanda...state al gioco...)
Sul sasso ho dipinto la spirale detta KORU, che rappresenta un nuovo inizio, crescita e rinascita...
Ho preparato un'etichetta tonda sulla quale ho incollato una spirale sempre fatta di iuta, ho coperto gesso e spruzzato con i Lindy's, poi ho scritto tutto intorno quello che questo progetto rappresenta per me...VITA, ARMONIA, CRESCITA, RISVEGLIO, RINASCITA...

I added some burlap string and piece of fabric, a piece of wood found in my garden and a rock collected on the beach...(ok, it was in Greece and not New Zealand...please bear with me...)
On the rock I have painted a spiral called KORU, that represents a new beginning, growth and rebirth...I have made a round tag on which I have glued some string, gessoed and sprayed with Lindy's, then added what this project means to me...LIFE, HARMONY, GROWTH, AWAKENING, REBIRTH...

E con questo è tutto...ci vediamo alla prossima...ci sono ancora 2 sfide da affrontare...AFRICA e AMERICHE!

ITAC '17 - CHALLENGE #2: ASIA

Ciao a tutti e bentornati! Oggi mi sono dedicata alla seconda sfida dell'International Tournament of Art & Craft - ITAC 2017...il nuovo tema è ASIA...Arte come Meditazione! 
Non potrei essere più d'accordo con questo...credo fermamente che l'arte possa essere utilizzata non solo come forma di meditazione, ma anche come terapia, come antistress...per me l'arte è tutto questo e molto di più...è nutrimento per l'anima...

Come per la SFIDA #1 (EUROPA) era obbligatorio inserire almeno una delle seguenti voci richieste:

- Motivi ispirati dai mandala  

· Forme Geometriche   

· Piastrelle, ceramiche, o loro disegni...    

· Fiori Asiatici, come fiori di ciliegio, crisantemi, orchidee, fiori di loto, frangipani, gigli, hibiscus, ecc 

· Calligrafia   

· Tessuto tinto a mano   

· Pigmenti in polvere   

 e così è nata questa 'canvas' mixed media...

Hello everyone and welcome back! Today I dedicated myself to Challenge #2 of The International Tournament of Art & Craft - ITAC 2017...the new theme is ASIA....Art as Meditation!
Couldn't agree more with this statement...I truly believe that Art can be a form of meditation, as well as a therapy, a stress relief...for me Art is all the above and more...is nourishment for the soul...

Just like the previous CHALLENGE #1 (EUROPE) it was mandatory to include at least one of the given prompt, as follows :

- Motifs inspired by mandalas

- Geometric shapes

- Tiles - ceramic, pantiles, glazed tiles, or their designs...

- Asiatic flowers, such as cherry blossom, chrysanthemum, orchids, lotus, Frangipani, lilies, hibiscus etc..

- Calligraphy or handwriting

- Fabric, faded or dyed

- Powdered pigments

so this is how this mixed media 'canvas' came to be...

Ho iniziato da questa carta patterned che mi ricordava dei motivi asiatici, l'ho incollata su di un rettangolo di chipboard piuttosto spesso, ed ho creato così la mia 'tela'...

Per ricreare il Mandala ho usato uno dei miei stencil preferiti, il 'Doily' della 13@rts e la Modeling Paste, ho asciugato e poi ho coperto tutto alternando Gesso Bianco e Trasparente, applicati con una spatola e con pennello, per avere una texture diversa...

Per colorare il tutto ho usato i Rainbow Color e Rainbow Color Duo della 13@rts...si tratta di pigmenti in polvere che reagiscono con l'acqua e creano effetti fantastici...i miei preferiti sono i Color Duo perchè al colore di base uniscono altre tinte per risultati sorprendenti! Essendo concentrati, basta davvero pochissimo prodotto.

Ho iniziato nel centro alternando Lemon Yellow e Yellow Amber e spruzzando acqua, ho asciugato e poi ho usato il Lilac nella parte superiore, spruzzato ed asciugato. Poi Turquoise in basso ed infine il Pistachio Green sulla parte rimanente, facendo scendere il colore fino al bordo (Vedete foto per riferimento)

Ho rinforzato un po' i colori con una seconda applicazione ed una volta asciutto ho spruzzato lo spray Starburst California Poppy Gold della Lindy's nel centro...nella foto si nota l'effetto shimmer...

I started this project from a piece of patterned paper that reminded me of asian wallpapers, I glued it to a piece of heavy chipboard of the same size, creating my 'canvas'...

To create the Mandala I have used one of my all time favorite stencils, 'Doily' by 13@rts and Modeling Paste, I dried it all then covered with Gesso, both White and Clear, using a spatula and a brush in order to have different textures...

To paint the canvas I have used 13@rts Rainbow Color and Rainbow Color Duo...these are dye-based watercolor powders and create amazing effects when spritzed with water...my fave are the Color Duo, because they have a base color and other contrasting pigments added to have surprising results! Being highly concentrated you really need a small amount of these powders.

Started in the center using both Lemon Yellow and Yellow Amber, spritzed with water and dried. Added Lilac on top of the Mandala, Turquoise at the bottom and last Pistachio Green, tilting the canvas to the side to have the color flow...(See pic for reference)

Added a bit more of colors here and there for a bolder look and once dry I added Lindy's Starburst California Poppy Gold just in the middle of the Mandala...you can see the shimmery effect in the photo below...

Con una forbice ho 'distressato' tutto intorno, poi  ho scurito il bordo in alto con il Distress Ink Seedless Preserve e quello in basso con Mermaid Lagoon...infine ho ripassato tutti i bordi con il Black Soot.
Con inchiostro archival nero ho timbrato dei motivi geometrici e con il pennino ed inchiostro di china nero ho scritto in alto l'ideogramma per ARMONIA ed in basso quello per VITA (chiedo scusa agli amici asiatici per la mia calligrafia pessima...)
Ho fatto cadere delle gocce di Splash Ink Nero della 13@rts, incollato del cordino e la foto di un fiore di loto, scattata lo scorso anno durante una gita lungo il Mincio, alle porte di Mantova...

With a scissor I distressed all around the edges, then enhanced the purple using Distress Ink Seedless Preserve and the turquoise with Mermaid Lagoon...finished with a touch of Black Soot.
With black archival ink I stamped few geometric motifs and with nib and Black ink I wrote the ideograms for HARMONY (above) and LIFE (I apologize with my asian friends for my dreadful handwriting...)
I spattered with Splash Black ink by 13@rts, glued some string and the picture of a lotus, taken last year, during a day-trip on  Mincio river, near Mantua...

Devo ammettere che sono piuttosto soddifatta del risultato, ideogrammi storti compresi...Lol!

I must admit that I am satisfied with the final results...crooked ideograms included...Lol!
